The Brian Freed – Benno - Wisden Collection.

Welcome to the Wisdens.Org Summer 2017 Catalogue, a few years ago a great member of our Wisden forum, Benno, passed away, this is the set he put together. Brian (Benno was his User ID and Dogs name) was very particular about the books he purchased, they had to be the best and the phrase “Benno” standard has been used ever since for top quality Wisdens.

Brian’s relationship with the game went way beyond that of most cricket followers. A lifelong fan of Surrey, we was one of the three founding members of the Supporters’ Club, or as it was known back in its conception in 1978, the Surrey CCC Supporters’ Association.

And much as with the supporters’ club, Brian’s involvement in the Wisden community continues despite his passing. Forever in pursuit of the perfect book, he is responsible for coining the phrase ‘Benno Standard’. The name - and Brian’s forum username, a homage to his pedigree German Shepherd sidekick.

Gone, but by no means forgotten, he’ll be remembered for his quick wit, exacting standards and a practical joke of any type. His collection is but an example of the standards his name is fondly associated with.

Brian kept detailed notes on his books which I have included in the listings – unedited.

I have put as many pictures as size will allow within this catalogue but I have many more, so if you would like to see them or even a video of the books, just drop us a line. A higher resolution catalogue is also available on request. Apologise for any repetition, a lot of the books are superb and hence descriptions seem repetitive.
