Hutchinson Of London: 1963 hardback with jacket in protective sleeve. 1st edition of a rare book very difficult to find in this fine condition.
Cyril Lionel Robert James (1901 – 1989), was an Afro-Trinidadian historian, journalist, socialist theorist and essayist. He was also a writer on cricket of course, and Beyond a Boundary is a memoir that mixes social commentary, particularly
on the place of cricket in the West Indies and England, with commentary on the
game. Some critics have described it as the greatest cricket book ever written,
and in 2005 The Guardian ranked the book as the third best book on sport
ever written.
Bound in black cloth with three or four small bumps to the front cover otherwise very good with no bumping to the corners and minimal, if any, rubbing along the edges. Spine is strong, not rubbed top or bottom, and gilt titles still sharp. Page-ends are clean except for an area on the top-edge near the spine that is a little grubby. Internally the binding is good, hinges strong, and contents are spotless with no marks or inscriptions.
The jacket is price-clipped, faded down the spine and to other areas as shown. It has minimal edge-wear and no area of loss and is now protected inside a removable plastic sleeve. The first two images show the jacket without its
protective sleeve.
Shipping: The price includes next-day special delivery in the UK with full insurance. It can also be sent overseas via airmail to any country that accepts Royal Mail's Insured International Signed-for service, at an additional cost of £7.22 (to Europe) or £13.38 (rest of the world).
